A Prelude to “The Evangelism Conversation No One is Having”

By Rick E. Moore, Associate Pastor

If there is one thing that I’m passionate about, it’s connecting people to GOD!  I have been like this since I was a boy.  When I was in 4th grade, I would line up my sister’s stuffed animals, pull her night stand out, place my Bible on top of it, and start telling them how much GOD loves them.

I used to think, “I want to be a part of a church that is reaching people who don’t even want to come to church.”  This idea has never left me.  To this day, I still have this passion running deep inside of me.  I want to connect with people who put GOD or “church” in a box and think, “I could never go there” or “they would never accept me there.”  I so desperately want to disprove their assumptions.

The Bible is clear that Jesus accepts us just as we are.  I didn’t have get my “act together” before Jesus would come into my life.  The mess that I made didn’t keep Jesus from pursing me.  In fact, the mess allowed me to see my need for Him.  His love, His forgiveness, the way He sees me—as blameless, as holy and without a single fault! (Colossians 1:21,22) I want people to experience GOD’S love like I have!

Because of this passion, I read all I can about reaching people.  I recently read Carey Nieuwhof’s blog post about this very subject.  If you desire to tell others about Christ’s love there are some very helpful tips in this blog.  CLICK HERE to read it for yourself.

After reading this blog, see if we can’t amp up our intentionality at reaching people for Christ who think God or “church” isn’t for them.
