18 Jul “Inside Out” by Johnathan Moore
Do any of you remember “inside-out day” in elementary school during spirit week? Man, I hated that day. I never knew why people were so excited to wear their clothes inside out. Like how was that even fun?
When it comes to real life application, the idea of “inside-out” has such big implications. So many of us, whether we are Christians or not, feel this urgent need to put on a fake outer appearance. For non-believers, it could just be that you’re trying to fit in with society’s norms, or possibly that you don’t want people to see the real you. You sometimes may even feel as if you need to hide who you truly are from God, in fear that you might be too messy for Him to love- even though that would be impossible. Even as Christians, we may, on the outside, be doing “religious” things such as attending church and tithing, but have real issues or “giants” within our hearts that we need to give God control over. In Hosea 6:6, it says “I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings”. Here, God is making it as clear as day that His real desire for us is to show love and for us to have a personal relationship with Him!
Whatever our circumstance may be, what we need to realize is that Jesus could not care less what our actions may be unless we are letting Him consume our hearts first. Life transformations through the Holy Spirit are done from the inside out, not the outside in. Once you completely give over your heart to Him, you’ll forever be changed and your inside will truly be shown on your outside!
