22 Nov “Keeping Our Word” by Kitty Holt
Did anyone ever tell you that the check was in the mail, and you looked in your mailbox each day, only to find no check, day after day? Or did someone tell you they would call you right back, leaving you waiting by the phone for a call that did not come? Perhaps someone habitually arrives 30 minutes late, keeping you waiting.
Contrast the things we humans say and do with what God has said:
“I will speak the word that I will speak, and it will be performed.”
“I have spoken, and I will do it.”
“I have spoken; it shall come to pass, I will do it.”
Can you imagine what a different world it would be if everything we said we would do, we did do? If our word was truly as good as gold? If people could completely trust us when we promised to do something? If our “yes” truly was “yes,” and our “no” truly was “no”?
Can we, as God’s people, do that? Before we say we will do something, let us consider our words, and then do all we can to abide by what we say. What a witness that would be!
“I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips.” Psalm 89:34
