11 Apr “Love Redefined” by Ann Webb
1 John 4:16 ESV — So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
One of the things I love most about Jesus is how effortlessly He turns my world upside down. These days I have been reflecting on our first encounter. I was hostile, angry, and unyielding. My brother Thom was going Home, and I was not ready. I cannot say what I wanted more. Part of me wanted to deny the power and presence of Christ evident to me in Thom’s last days. The other, more consuming part of me wanted to rage against God for denying me the goodbye I thought I deserved. The lingering hurt of love lost left something broken.
Until very recently when I shared my testimony, I went from deathbed to six weeks later when my son asked me to take him to church. In His perfect timing, He continues to heal remaining hurts. He has shifted my vision from the pain of Thom’s final hours to just how blessed we were to have loved the way you do when you know time is short. He has set my heart to rejoicing over how thankful I am that He loves Thom and restored his faith before calling him home.
It has been just over 10 years since I accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. As a new believer, I heard people talk and sing about loving Jesus more than anyone or anything, I could not imagine this truth. He did all the heavy lifting, all the healing, all the work. He turned my world upside right. Thankfully I will never be the same.
