“Stepping Out In Faith” by Ann Webb

“Stepping Out In Faith” by Ann Webb

Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”  “Yes, come,” Jesus said.” Matthew 14:28-29

If you know me, you know that I love words.  One of my favorite things about sharing scripture in a group is listening to the different ways words come together to say the same thing.  On Sunday, January 22nd, for the first time in a long time, I left church unable to capture the experience in words.

The visual that comes to mind is found in Matthew 14 when Jesus calls Peter out of the boat and onto the water.  I imagine I’m feeling much like the men standing on the boat – awestruck by an awesome God.  I am overwhelmed and humbled to be included in the body of believers chosen to witness these three pastors stepping out in faith at the same time.

It feels strange to be filled with peace, joy, and expectation.  How incredible it is to feel HIS balance as everything seems to be moving so quickly.  I do not have enough words of praise, thanksgiving, or adoration.  While I haven’t had many church experiences outside of CCF, I recognize that HE is moving among us now in ways that are uncommon to man.  How richly blessed we are to have even a small part in the work HE is doing.

I have been praying for our church family and for each of these men, their wives, and families.  I know that like Peter, their eyes (our eyes) are on Jesus.  I know that in the days ahead as they begin to move in their new calling (in some ways our new calling), the enemy will seek to weigh them and us down by stirring up feelings and fears.  I am waiting with expectation to see how HE will use us as co-laborers, and am praying that HE will stir our hearts to say yes when HE asks us to love, follow, and serve in new and exciting ways.
